Board of Director Positions

Most of these positions take more than the required 6 hours of work in-kind hours but the service can be very rewarding. An amiable attitude, positive communication abilities, and some organizational skills are as asset. Most of the following positions require that you are at least 18 years of age.

President / Vice President

  • Organize and chair Board of Directors meetings and the Annual General Meetings.
  • Liaison with the City of Abbotsford and Ag in the Classroom.
  • Maintain Society status.
  • Renew annual liability insurance.
  • Organize amendments (e.g., compost, wood waste).
  • Signing authority for banking.
  • Manage e-mail account.

Secretary (Meeting Minutes Coordinator)

  • Take notes at all meetings and circulate to board members prior to next meeting.

Treasurer

  • Organize and maintain budget.
  • Manage payables and receivables.
  • Signing authority for banking.

Registration Coordinator

(partial secretary duties)

  • Develop gardeners’ lease agreements.
  • Manage spring and fall registration events.
  • Register abandoned plots through the season.
  • Maintain contact list for all members.

Plot Maintenance Coordinator

  • Provide guidance on individual plot maintenance as per the garden guidelines.
  • Complete regular walk-throughs to ensure garden plots are maintained (mid-April to end of September or as per growing season).
  • Communicate with individual gardeners if plot improvements are required.

Education/Social Coordinator

  • Organize educational garden talks.
  • Organize 2 BBQs per year.

Webmaster

  • Develop and maintain the website and Facebook pages.

Volunteer Co-ordinators

  • Determine required duties to be performed by gardeners.
  • Provide guidance for tasks that require attention.
  • Hold a minimum of 2 work-bee sessions during the growing season
  • Manage work in-kind plot cards.

Communications Coordinator

Experience with layouts in Microsoft Publisher or a similar program is required.

  • Develop 3 to 4 newsletters a year – pdfs emailed to membership and posted on the website.
  • Provide the webmaster with pdfs, articles, photos, and updates for the website
